Steve Mathieson has been writing songs since 1991, that was the year that he first really had his heart broken . Before that he had never ever been able to write songs. So, after that woman (who broke his heart) walked out of Steve’s life, he went to a local pawnshop and bought an old beat-up acoustic guitar and starting playing again.
It was the first time since he was about 14 yrs. old, but it didn’t take long before it all came back to him. This time the words came out more easily and he was able to write his feelings down. Of course the first one was about how upset he was after being cast aside by the one he loved. This first song was appropriately called Is That The Thanks I Get? (For Loving You) .
After that more came, mostly songs about broken relationships and heartbreak. Never one lucky in relationships, always getting mixed up with the wrong women in bars, until he met his soul-mate, got married and had some kids.
Today, Steve and his wife, Aniko have formed a new band called s.a.m. - steve mathieson band to showcase his original tunes. Steve still writes songs about heartbreak, long lost love and depression but has a new positive outlook that is reflected in songs such as Believin’ In Love and Waiting for You.
Last summer Steve participated and performed in The Cates Park Summer Concert Series and had one of his songs included on a compilation CD that was produced by MUSART to help raise funds for Cancer research.
We really enjoyed networking, meeting new people and being able to help raise funds and awareness for such a worthy cause.
